New York Times Best Manga Sellers for the beginning of September are:

  1. Bleach, Volume 32 by Tite Kubo

  2. Alice in the Country of Hearts, Volume 4 by QuinRose Staff

  3. Maximum Ride Manga, Volume 3 by James Patterson

  4. Junjo Romantica, Volume 12 by Shungiku Nakamura

  5. Naruto, Volume 48 by Masashi Kishimoto

  6. Chibi Vampire Airmail by Yuna Kagesaki

  7. Rosario+Vampire by Akihisa Ikeda

  8. Air Gear 15/16/17, Vol. 15 by Oh!Great

  9. Black Bird, Volume 5 by Kanoko Sakurakoji

  10. Bakuman., Volume 1 by Tsugumi Ohba

One title sadly missing from the list is the sleeper hit, Black Butler. The only reason I can see for it’s being missed is because only
Volumes 1 and 2 have been released in English. I fully expect this book to hit the list as more manga fans find out about it and as more volumes become available.

A shock to see on the list is Alice in the Country of Hearts.

Though I love this series and it is an excellent read, it’s rather new compared to the other book listed. Rosario+Vampire and Chibi Vampire are old favs. Black Bird is relatively new and a great new one for those of you looking for a new series. I will have a review of that one coming up.

Now, let’s catch up on a few of our series, shall we?

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Black Butler II – Absolutely Buy
Black Butler is an awesome series and just gets better in this second volume. You also get to meet The Undertaker, which is a scary shop keeper who comes close to cutting Lord Ciel to pieces. Sebastian saves the day once again, but not before Ciel finds himself at a ball, in a full gown and curls. Find out what the disguise is all about in this exciting volume.
DramaCon 3 – Maybe
The DramaCon series had me at volume one, but two was sadly lacking. Three is better and reconciles the two main love interests, but not enough to make me forgive volume two. If you just can’t help but see what happens, it’s a so-so buy.
Vampire Kisses 2 & 3 – Buy
This is such a fun little series. I love to read about Raven because she reminds me of Death from the Sandman comics. This is a cute series for us goths.

But I must warn you, the artist changes in volume 3. Where as REM had us tied up in the latest gothy fashion, the new artist in 3, Elisa Kwon, seems to have brought us back to classic, plain goth fashion. Not bad, just not that thrilling to look at. The storyline is still cute and the characters recognizable, but it’s the difference between Lily and Morticia. Morticia is much more sexy.

This has been your manga update,
if you have any input on these titles, I’d love to hear about it.
