Walking in Dreams (Objectives 2010)
Fantasy is a hard genre to define. It is like wrestling with Nereus.
I loved the giants, the monsters, the witches and wizards, and especially the dragons. There is something about the fire-breathing lizard with grand cosmic powers that puts a smile on my face.
It is hard to be a fan of fantasy. I loved The Lord of the Rings, but I don’t need to read the six millionth retelling of that very same story. My local book store doesn’t carry anything else… trust me, I’ve looked.
I’m not sure exactly what I am looking for. Like I said, fantasy is a squishy thing. It is one of those genres I know when I see it, but not usually before then. I set the goal to find more space opera books on Banned from Argo, and my time is quite limited, so I am not sure if I can pick up many more books, although there is a new Tracy Hickman novel I have my eyes on.
I think it might be a better use of my time to look at fantasy, and try to figure out what it is that I am really looking for. I have a theory it is more Magic Realism.
