Review of:  The Mummy

Overall Rating: 9

The Mummy is a wonderful adventure tale in the vein of the 40's 50's swashbuckler movies.  I really enjoy watching this film for it's great sense of humor, mystery, and suspense.  The movie opens up with the back story for Imhotep setting up the tragic love story that led the character to become cursed and establishes his motivations.  The film has a great pace.  Though they use names and events from history they take great liberty with the actual historical accurateness.  This is definitely an owner.

The Plot / Story: High priest Imhotep is forced to undergo the cures of the Hom Dai for having an affair with the Pharaoh's wife  murdering the Pharaoh and trying to resurrect her from the dead.  For three thousand years Imhotep was laid quietly at Hamunaptra until Evie Carnahan accidentally wakes him up.  Now they must find a way to stop the mummy Imhotep before he can unleash a wave of destruction and death upon the earth.  For More

  1. the portrayal of the Americans made me laugh

  2. the sense of humor

  3. the swashbuckler style

  4. the effects look really good

Dislikes / Concerns

  1. they use the name of Imhotep for the villain when there are other historical Egyptian names that would have been more appropriate.

  2. seem to have a lack of knowledge about Egyptian mythology

  3. the mummy visits the same curses on the people as Moses so are they saying Moses is a mummy?
