In honor of the 30th anniversary of "The Empire Strikes Back," there will be a one night screening of the Star Wars classic at the ArcLight Hollywood. For all of those fortunate enough to be in the LA area the screening will be on May 19th.
Harrison Ford will attend the screening and give an on-stage Q&A! I’m glad to see him put aside his aversion to be with Star Wars fans at least to help out with the charity benefit.
The event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This will also be the kickoff event for a year long charity campaign planned by Lucasfilm.
This is a great example of fandom at it’s best! Having a celebration of something we love, with someone who is directly involved in the project and doing it to raise money to benefit a cause that helps out everyone in the community. Kudos!

Star Wars Fans Flashmob Live Lightsaber Fight
In Bristol, England a bunch of Star Wars fans put together a flashmob for a huge lightsaber fight on February 13th 2010. Watch the video below. I love how this video has a Star Wars type intro though they left out the scroll which would have been a perfect place to put in the back story for the flashmob or to create some story to set up a bunch of Jedi and Dark Jedi fighting in Bristol, England.
The use Duel of the Fates for the soundtrack is a perfect choice for a bunch of lightsaber fighting.
Star Wars Much Ado About Something?
Tomas Dolby posted a fun update on his blog about some future Star Wars projects that has got many running in circles. Is it much ado about nothing rather then something?
Thomas Dolby, poptastic mastermind of Hyperactive and She Blinded Me With Science fame, posted an update to his blog about his current stay in Tiburon, CA, across the bay from San Francisco. His host, he revealed, is one Paul Sebastien of Lucasarts. The kicker comes when Dolby writes:
Last night he was telling me a little about the forthcoming Star Wars-related TV show, movie and online games—very cool indeed.
Because of the probable NDA he would have to be as vague as to mention a TV show, Movie and Online Games. This would keep the actual project secret and would still be true since Lucas Arts is working on all three anyhow. It sounds to me like he is referring to many of the projects that are already in the works.
Game: The long awaited KTOR online MMORPG. I can’t wait for that to come out. There is also Star Wars Battlefront 3, also can't wait for that one. And probably several other tie in games I would be shocked if there weren’t.
Lucas Arts is working on a live action TV show, a project that has been in the pipeline for a while now. I hope that is what he was referring to. I want to see this project. Since the success of releasing the Clone Wars pilot as a movie I hope this will be repeated for the live action show.
What I wish they would do is:
- KTOR movie, maybe a tie in to the MMORPG
- A movie taking the Star Wars saga forward after the Yavin event or maybe a movie version of Legacy of the Force!
I can hope.
Theater or Renter: Star Wars The Clone Wars
Star Wars The Clone Wars is definitely a must see theater for me. I am a big Star Wars fan and was sad when George Lucas announced originally that he would probably not do anymore Star Wars stuff. Much to my delight to find out that instead he dove into The Clone Wars project which consists of this movie, plans to do a TV series set to possibly come out in January 2009, and announced the work on a Knights of The Old Republic MMORPG!
I love all of the new footage and perspective that is in all of the trailers and special commentary for this movie. I do have some concern though that this project might be a little too kidsy and more in the vein of the Ewoks & Droids Animated Adventure or the Ewok Adventures - Caravan of Courage movies.

Clone Wars trailer & Movie Poster
On Thursday, May 8th Lucasfilm Animation will release the Trailer for their newest movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It will be released at 7:58pm all U.S. time zones across the Turner networks: Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, Boomerang, & TNT. If you can't wait like me you can get a sneak peek at what some of the material looks like from an earlier teaser.
The two minute trailer will also show in theaters on May 9th. This means that I will get to see it on the big screen when I go to see Speed Racer.
The poster shown above looks really good. I like the classic star wars framing.

Star Wars On Display!
A long, long time ago in a galaxy far far away a museum exhibit opened featuring both light and dark side artifacts- well not so long ago February 9th and well most would agree that Philadelphia & Brussels are not in a galaxy far, far away. Two new Star Wars exhibits will be on display.. the one in Philadelphia is called Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination & in Brussels it is titled Star Wars: The Exhibition. Is it ironic coincidence that that the Sith promotional poster was given to the American exhibit and the Jedi was given to the Belgium exhibit or was it because that is the imagery that would appeal to their respective audiences and if so what does that say about us here as American audiences or was it just chance. Hmmm.... maybe I should just be mindful of the living force and not dwell so much on the future...
This exhibit will be really cool with props, original costumes, models, vehicles, and art from all six of the movies. What is also interesting is that the American exhibit is looking at it from the perspective of taking the "fantasy tech" and how we are making it real today with in depth looks at robots and speeders- I hope this means that my next vehicle can be a speeder. And the Belgium exhibit is looking at the artistry, story telling and making of epic movies.
Hmmmm... well If I would have to choose I would choose both exhibits but to choose only one that would be difficult. Which exhibit excites you more? The one looking at the tech aka robots and speeders or the one looking at art and story.
