My name is Charlie, but if your looking for my work, I go by C. E. Dorsett. I write scifi, fantasy, and a touch of horror. I like to play with gothic, steampunk, decopunk, epic fantasy, and wuxia. I love to tell stories and talk about books, movies, series, and music.
The Mouse eats Marvel: $4B Meal
I sat on this for a couple days trying to figure out what to make of the news:
Disney announced today that it is acquiring superhero factory Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion in cash and stock. The move gives the mouse house ownership of more than 5,000 Marvel characters (New TeeVee)
To sigh, cry, or walk away?
I am not a fan of Disney, and I haven't been for quite some time. Over the last 10 years, the company focused a race to the bottom rather than on the quality of their works. Meet the Robinsons is probably the only film they have made in a long time that lives up to the old Disney ideals.
I am really concerned about how this will affect Marvel.
This can only be a good thing for people who just want to see more content come out with no eye to quality.
What to expect?
- More pointless sequels
- Further watering down of Marvel content
- Cuddly cartoons merchandised even more than they are now
- Rise of Marvel Animation and Live Action
- End of the the Comic Books
I know that last one will be controversial, but I will be surprised if Marvel's comic books will make enough money to make Disney happy without drastic changes.
The Incredible Hulk Movie Poster
Even in the poster the Hulk doesn't look real... (sigh) I suppose they are trying to keep people from getting their hopes too high so they will be wowed when the film actually comes out. It is working. Hype not here... It should be a good movie though, even if a bit cartoony.

Orson Scott Card Wins Wrong Award
Orson Scott Card, the reason I have been boycotting Ultimate Iron Man and Red Prophet has won an award for:
"an author's work in helping adolescents become aware of themselves and addressing questions about their role and importance in relationships, society, and in the world (Pink Kryptonite)."
Really? The homophobic author who campaigns on his website for the illegalization of sex gender relationships... really? This person deserves an award?
Should a writer's work be judged because of their personal beliefs? So long as we place them within the proper cultural context in which they lived. There are many things that in the past were viewed as racially progressive that are now seen as racially insensitive. But this is the 21st century...
I am open about by political, personal, and religious beliefs. I know that some will judge me and refuse to read me work because of them. I do not want to support an artist that hates people like me, because supporting that artist is supporting that hate speech.
The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) put him on their list of the Best Books for Young Adults and gave him their Margaret A Edwards Award, which is the same as saying, "Give money to this anti-GLBT crusader and teach your kids to see this bigot as a voice of authority."
Shame on them. Continue the boycott of Orson Scott Card and all who support him.

Pics from The Watchmen
The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) | Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson)
Ozymandias (Mathew Goode) | Rorshach (Jackie Earle Haley)
The Silk Spectre (Malin Åkerman)
The pics look great, this is one film I really cannot wait to see. I call this one a "theater" in advance.

Marvel Comics has launched a new Facebook app to help us collect and read our digital comics. The App seems to require a Marvel.com account to activate, but it does give you access to at least 100 comics with an invitation to subscribe to their digital comics service. The app is fairly easy to navigate, but still has some annoying feature-lack.
- You have the ability to add comics to your must reads, but there is no "not interested" or read shelf.
- No user rating for comics.
- No discovery mechanism for finding new comics.
Having said that, it is easy to find titles that I was already interested in, and they are enjoyable to read online.
