The Liar 'n Chief has spoken

Charlie DorsettComment

I just finished watching Bush's speech that he gave while in town.  There were only three things that he said that were true:  his name, where he was, and that he visited the rubble of the world trade center on Sept 14.  The rest was nothing but lies, dishonest half-truths, and self-serving platitudes that really didn't mean anything.

I am not going to waste my time refuting his many lies, there are many sites dedicated to doing just that.  I want to address something I consider a lot more important.  Even more important than who wins this particular election and that is:

The State of the American Mind

It troubles me too see so many people willfully accepting these lies at face value.  They are dogma to be accepted not challenged.  "Well, everyone has their own opinion."  That is true, but there is an important difference between an opinion and a fact.  A fact is independently verifiable.  If you say a person is for the working man, you can examine their record and see if, on balance they have done what they say.

Opinions are strange, intangible things that belong to each individual.  Facts are something else altogether.  Just because you say something, that doesn't make it true.

Now, there are some things that are a matter of opinion, and there is no way they can ever be verified, such as religion.  That is a matter of personal belief and opinion, not fact.  But voting records are facts.  Economic reports are facts.  Jobs number are what they are.  To pretend that these are ambiguous things that can be read multiple ways is ridiculous.  They say what they say, no matter how much we may want to distort them.

If we, as a country, are going to allow anyone, Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, to lie to us without challenge, we have lost our way and our souls.  If we choose to continue this present course of lies and deception, we will deserve whatever we get.

The facts can be painful sometimes, but if we ignore them, we can not grow.  We will never get better... things will only get worse.

I refuse to believe that this is all we are capable of.  I refuse to believe we cannot do better.  We have chosen this dark path of ignorance, we can choose to go a different way.

America, we are better than this.  We don't have to allow these lies to go on.  Stand up, and reclaim your own mind!  Don't let anyone lie to you.

Side Note

Bush said something strange, and I can't get it out of my mind: When he was talking about malpractice reform, he said:  "Too many OB-GYN'S aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."  What does that mean?  I have some lewd thoughts, but what did he mean by that?

My name is Charlie, but if your looking for my work, I go by C. E. Dorsett.  I write scifi, fantasy, and a touch of horror.  I like to play with gothic, steampunk, decopunk, epic fantasy, and wuxia.  I love to tell stories and talk about books, movies, series, and music.
