What if prop 8 was a ban on opposite sex marriage?

This is a great special comment by Keith Olbermann on gay marriage. via Huffington Post

He puts the argument forward in such a simple way: if you are a Christian than you follow the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Therefore as a Christian do you want the government to tell you that you can only marry people of the same sex. As a Christian do you want the government to tell you that you can not have children unless you are part of a same sex family. As a Christian do you want your country to tell you that your love does not count because you love someone of the opposite sex. It should make you think. Thanks Keith

I know several priests (Catholic and Episcopal) who are refusing to perform any marriage, not just to protest prob 8, but because they feel it violates their ordination to perform a cerimony that ends with the words, "by the power invested in me in the state of x."

They want to render to Caeser what is Caeser's, and render to God what is God's.

I think they have the right idea.

That is very true. for instance Catholic priest used to get married but due to property rights issues they put a ban on it. Why they haven't rescinded that ban now that property rights have changed and that would no longer be an issue... I don't know.
In the states the biggest problem with the religion issue is that we don't have a civil marriage system that separates the two allowing the public to choose instead of having to force everyone to mix the two.

I think that is really interesting. I am Catholic but my uncle is gay and I see no problem with same sex marriage and I believe the church needs to live the present not the past. The Church has made the adapted the bible to what it believes is right in the pass, it can do that again now.
