What is Project: Shadow?
We are a community who gather for the love of speculative fiction. We have a passion for Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Space Opera, Steam Punk, Supernatural Horror, Anime, Music, and Culture. We gather with SF writer C.E. Dorsett to discuss, preserve, promote, and play in the books, shorts, movies, music, podcasts and culture, entering the Shadows to find the Light!

My name is C.E. Dorsett, and I am a Speculative Fiction writer. (I lean a little more toward Fantasy, but whose counting?) I love SF, gaming (RPG’s mostly), and music. [Click for Biography] [Click for Bibliography]
Why is it called Project: Shadow?
-
Because I am not fond of Vanity Domains. CEDorsett.com lead here too. I think my work is more important than I am (That is to you of course… Personally, I’m tossed up between the two.)
-
Because the stories I tell creep out of the shadows of my mind and possess me until they’re told.
-
Because my main goal is to bring things out of the shadows and into the light. To do that, you have to delve into the shadows.
-
Because we undertake many different projects to bring those things from the shadows to you. Some of those projects are:
-
The Barrens End project. A space opera setting created by C.E. Dorsett where many of his stories take place within.
- The Project:Shadow Informant. A daily podcast where SF writer C.E. Dorsett and fan Brian Logee discuss SF news, events, reviews, and opinions.
- The HQ. Our community where members can discuss and share cool finds.
- The Symposium. The blog of Project: Shadow.

Because it sounds cool! Duh!!

So, why is your logo a Dragon?
Dragons are just cool, and well if you look closely, the dragon is a monogram for the site. Its head and the crescent moon make a "P," and its tail makes an "S."
What does "Et ignotas animum dimittit in artes." mean?
It is my personal motto. To make my High School Latin teacher happy, let’s diagram the sentence.
| Et | ignotas | animum | dimittit | in | artes |
| and | unknown | mind | he gave up | toward | arts |
| acc. pl | acc | past perfect, 3rd | acc. pl |
"And he gave his mind up to arts unknown." It is a quote from the eighth book of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It is the moment that Daedalus, who had been trapped behind the waves by king Minos, decided to turn his mind to unknown arts in hopes that he could escape from the prison the king had made for him. It reminds me that things are just as Daedalus learned, the land and the waters may be controlled by others, but the sky is free to those who learn to fly.
It is also a warning. Daedalus’ son, Icarus, would not listen to his father’s warnings and was killed by his own ignorance. It reminds me to pay attention to the warnings I am given, and to, unlike Icarus, fly the middle way.
It also reminds me that an artist cannot control how his art is used. Daedalus came to hate the wings that he had built because his son used them improperly and died as a result. Everyone who take on wings is responsible for their own flight. I can fashion the wings and issue the warnings, but I am not responsible for people misunderstanding me.
So everyday, I give my mind over to unknown arts, because I cannot wait to see where I fly to next.
What does "Fiat iustitia–ruat caelum" mean?
Sorry, Mrs Remus, but I’m not going to take the time to diagram this one. The Answer: "Do Justice and let the skies fall!"
What does that really mean? It means that their are some principles that are too important to compromise, ever. We have all heard frightened people willing to sacrifice anything in the name of safety, civility, or (my favorite) "Moral Order."
If you are willing to sacrifice your Justice for any reason, you might as well throw your firstborn into a fire and pray that Moloch will protect you. Morally, you already have.

Why is your Pandora Station called "Enemy of the State"?
Sorry, but the answer is very simple. The first song I seeded the station with was "Enemy of the State" from Roadrunner United. Pandora automatically named the station after the song, and I didn’t change it. I hope that doesn’t burst your bubble.
